Pilosocereus lanuginosus

The Pilosocereus lanuginosus is a stunning cactus native to northern South America and the Caribbean. It can grow up to 10-40 feet tall if given the space. It is a columnar cactus with slender branches. The stem is a green/blue color and it has golden yellow spines that turn grey with age. It is cylindrical, erect and has close set ribs. Because of it’s upright growth, it is great for indoors and doesn’t take up much space.

AKA: Tree Cactus, Cephalocereus lanuginosus

Light: Bright indirect to full direct sun.

Watering: Allow the soil to dry out completely before watering. Water slowly and evenly until water pours out the drainage hole; discard excess to avoid root rot.

Humidity: Dry air to average home humidity.

Toxicity: Non-toxic but the spines are very sharp and dangerous and should be kept out of reach of children and pets.

Potting Medium: Fast-draining and fast-drying cactus soil.

Additional Care: Repot using kitchen tongs or wrap in blankets or newspaper. Watering too frequently is the most common cause of death so water sparingly and less in the winter when it is dormant.
